Bel Ami Not Screening at Sundance 2011

Protagonist Pictures, the Sales and Marketing Company for Bel Ami, has just released their Sundance 2011 festival line-up and unfortunately absent is Bel Ami starring Robert Pattinson and Uma Thurman.

Protagonist films Tyrannosaur and the acclaimed film Submarine are in the Sundance line-up.

Earlier this year, Protagonist confimed to BelAmiFilm.com that Bel Ami would in fact be screening at film festivals in 2011, so the waiting continues.

This is the most almighty mess-up with this film as I’m sure the producers were relying on distribution in the US. As far as film festivals are concerned you have to apply months in advance and Sundance reject more films than they show. With this and the rather obvious muting down of his presence in WFE (judging from the trailer) I think he’s in trouble. Too much gossip about his ‘relationship’ has made him a joke, film-makers are not taking him seriously and there is too much talented competition for good roles. The 18 months wait for it over here (UK) makes it look as if the film is a dog. He needs to pull himself together or he’s finished. Sorry – and I’ve been a fan since the days of Haunted Airman.

Wow yeah such a joke that he’s now the lead in the new Cronenberg movie. Yeah the guys in real trouble. Also the trailer for WFE was a teaser, Reese and Christoph only had a sentence too so by your words are they in trouble too? Rob is obviously the lead in WFE and will have a lot to do and say in the film, it’s ridiculous to even suggest otherwise.

The second of the two new stills released does not have Holly Grainger pictured alongside Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman & Kristin Scott Thomas. As a fan of this actress, I find this unacceptable. Miss Grainger is meant to be one of the female leads. I really want to see her get much more publicity. The amount she is receiving now is pitiful.

    • Mia says:

Just reading this comment now, it confuses me. As I have read the book and the script, Hollys character is very minor and only really shows up at the end so he can marry her. Thats it, her character is very, very small. Especially in comparison to Christina Ricci’s, Uma Thurmans and Kristen Scott Thomas’ roles.

WHEN is this film being released in the United States????????????????

I’ve heard several different dates and nothing seems to be the honest answer. They are not promoting it, taking it to festivals, making a trailor……….do they WANT the film to tank??
Don’t they know Rob’s fans are dying to see it and their hesitation is just making us angry not more anticipatory. We already have to wait a whole year and another year for Breaking Dawn and that’s just too long between them. Why can’t the Bel Ami people give us SOMETHING tangible – what the hell are they waiting for?
